I never knew what I wanted to do with my life after leaving school. I knew I was creative but didn’t know how to channel it. Careers advice in schools in the early 90’s was scant to say the least, and as a result I ended up in office jobs that were just not challenging me, nor keeping my interest.
When I bought my first house at the tender age of 19, and the office job inevitably didn’t quite pay enough to have a life besides paying the mortgage, I decided to look for a second income which I found in the form of bar work at a pub near to my new house. This was where I met Mark, co-founder, husband-to-be, and the man who still puts up with me, even now!
He and his Mum jointly owned this pub, and as our relationship blossomed, I got ever more involved in the day to day running of a pub restaurant business. When I came along, Mark was in the process of building a brand new function suite onto the back of his pub and several months later when the ‘Turbury Suite’ was up and running, the bookings came flooding in. There were engagements, birthdays, christenings, business functions – you name it we probably hosted it. The main function we hosted though, unsurprisingly, was wedding receptions.
In the years that followed, we literally saw hundreds of wedding parties come though our doors and so many families and wedding planners arriving the night before to set the room up for the next day. They all looked the same though—the usual colour themed balloons and napkins on every table, and sugared almonds! Oh, the dreaded sugared almonds! Not that there is anything wrong with sugared almonds, but I can’t tell you how many sugared almonds we must have thrown away at the end of the night when guests had abandoned them. I knew there had to be something better out there and then the penny dropped and I could see an opportunity to marry our knowledge of the hospitality trade and my desire to do something creative and bring something a little more personal and exciting to the party!
It started off with personalised cake bags (see above) for the pieces of wedding cake traditionally given at the end of the evening, and quickly progressed through to personalised Love Hearts favours, and before we knew it, Personocco was born!
We knew from the very beginning that favours and gifts are in essence, special tokens of appreciation for the party guests and to be given the role of supplying them for somebody’s wedding day, even though it is only a small role, it is still something that the bride and groom will remember for the rest of their lives, and to know that we have played our part in that day, well, that is really fulfilling for us.
Nowadays we cover every occasion you can think of! At the time of writing this blog, we are busy filling our website up with all the products we have created since starting the business in 2010. We started off just making items for weddings, but nowadays, mainly after requests from customers over the years, we also do Baby Showers, Birthdays, Hen Nights, Mehndi Parties, Christenings, Anniversaries – the list goes on and on and today we find ourselves to be an all-occasions company, not to mention how busy we have been making Corporate gifts too!
Some of them have even written us a poem! This kind of thing really, really makes our day when they come through:
Going forward, we have big plans for both the company and our website, and through our future blog posts, we plan to bring new ideas and inspiration for every occasion too! We are growing all the time and have just branched out into personalised Marshmallows, giving you the ability to have quite literally anything you want printed on a sheet of Marshmallow and then ‘framed’ into a Mallow Card for you. Our first products to market include Father’s Day Marshmallow gifts, and Bridesmaid gifts too.
We are also about to take delivery of machinery in the next couple of weeks to make our own favour boxes that we will be able to personalise and brand for you, making us a one-stop shop for your favour needs.
If you would like to see what we are up to, and see what creations we come up with, follow us on Social Media where we will be showcasing our new products as soon as they are ready for sale. Do you have any suggestions for new products, or is there something you have been looking for, but can’t find? Ask us, and we will see if we can help!
